Parsons is now taking internal applications for a Legal Counsel for the Systems & Transportation Group. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of contract review and/or legal experience in engineering, construction, environmental and/or technology industries and will have familiarity with the law, industry business practices, and negotiation of contracts in these fields.

This position will be based in one of our mid-west or east coast office locations. A telecommute option is available for the right candidate.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Our Legal Counsel will be responsible for contract reviews and negotiations and operational legal advice within the Infrastructure Division, particularly with respect to the company’s engineering, construction, technology, environmental, construction management, and joint venture agreements. The successful candidate will understand the legal, business, technical, and long-term implications of prime contract negotiations and potential claims, particularly in the engineering, environmental, and construction fields. Limited travel to the client’s offices or to the project site may be required.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide contract reviews and legal advice to the Infrastructure Division on contracts and operational matters.
  • Assist the legal team in effectively negotiating the most favorable terms and conditions with prospective and current clients while achieving company objectives. Identify risks and contractual terms not conforming to Company policy.
  • Participate in strategic planning activities for the Infrastructure Division (e.g., risk assessment, bid/no bid analysis, participation in business plan development, etc.).
  • Analyze legal matters arising in connection with project pursuit or execution, and as otherwise raised by management and its subsidiaries, and provide advice and counsel based upon research and acquired legal experience.
  • Negotiate and/or oversees the negotiation of various types of contracts, including but not limited to non-disclosure agreements, teaming agreements, prime contracts, joint venture agreements, environmental remediation contracts, and software license agreements.
  • Provide advice and assistance with construction / engineering / environmental and technology claims and disputes with contractors, owners, and subcontractors.
  • Negotiate technology elements related to construction and engineering contracts, including BIM agreements and software licensing agreements.
  • Maintain an active participation in related professional societies to keep abreast of relevant contractual/legal issues

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) required
  • Requires a working knowledge of industry business practices and experience negotiating a variety of contracts arising within the Infrastructure Division, including but not limited to non-disclosure agreements, prime contracts, teaming agreements, joint venture agreements, project management agreements, environmental and environmental remediation contracts, technology and technology licensing agreements, and related contracts.
  • Minimum 12+ years of related work experience within a law firm or corporation in the construction, engineering, environmental fields.
  • Must be capable of identifying and mitigating risk exposure in, and negotiating contracts in, the fields of engineering, construction, environmental remediation.
  • Must possess superior management and interpersonal skills, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills, and a working knowledge of PC software packages typically associated with contract management and administration.
  • Must be driven to learn and understand the technical and legal elements that impact the Infrastructure Division and to become a trusted advisor to the various stakeholders within the Infrastructure Division.
