We collaborate cross-functionally and globally to address some of the most complex and intriguing issues in privacy and data security. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to guide our Trust & Safety (T&S) and Product teams.

In order to enhance collaboration and cross-functional partnerships, among other things, at this time, our organization follows a hybrid work schedule that requires employees to work in the office 3 days a week, or as directed by their manager/department. We regularly review our hybrid work model, and the specific requirements may change at any time.

Responsibilities:

In the T&S space, you will partner with Global Product Content Moderation (GPCM) and provide legal support to USDS T&S teams.

  • Provide guidance related to time-sensitive US law enforcement and other legal requests for data (i.e.: preservation requests, subpoenas/summons, court orders, and search warrants), and develop and implement effective approaches for processing legal requests and protecting user data.
  • Identify and advise on obligations relating to data disclosure and platform safety and integrity, including child safety and other serious crimes.
  • Consult with teams responsible for finding violative users, behavior, and content that should not be on platform, and review root cause analyses and proposed remediations.

In the product space, partner with Global Product Legal and the Privacy and Data Protection Office, and provide legal support to the USDS User and Product Ops (UPO) teams.

  • Provide guidance on a wide range of product developments, including short-form mobile video products, live-streaming products, and e-commerce/payments related products.
  • Review proposed product integrations, new and updated features and services, and new applications and initiatives, to identify if they are in scope for USDS, and identify mitigations and appropriate compliance controls.
  • Build legal processes that foster simplicity, are scalable, mitigate risk, and allow product teams flexibility and freedom to move quickly.
  • Identify and address needs for training, guidelines, and playbooks to support the product teams.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate would bring prior content moderation experience and product counseling experience (preferably related to the online social media and content delivery industries)
  • Substantial experience handling multiple simultaneous projects, quickly analyzing and responding to escalations, and functioning well under pressure
  • Key qualities include excellent legal judgment; strong work ethic; a keen interest in technology; and being proactive, collaborative, and diligent
