What to Expect

Tesla is looking for a Managing Counsel to join our Commercial legal team. In this role, you will primarily support Tesla’s supply chain operations on the procurement of goods and services. As needed, you will also assist in transactions to support other business units, such as the sale of energy storage products, sale of charging products, and expansion of our Supercharger network. The position will be based in one of Tesla’s offices in Austin, Texas; the bay area of California; or Washington, DC.

Our ideal candidate will be a seasoned commercial lawyer who is passionate about accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy. This is a great opportunity for a proactive and entrepreneurial lawyer to work at a fast growing and dynamic company.

What You’ll Do
  • Manage a high volume and wide range of commercial contracts, including supply agreements, technology licensing agreements, development agreements, services agreements, leases and other real estate agreements, and confidentiality agreements
  • Provide advice on a wide variety of strategic, regulatory, and transactional matters for Tesla’s supply chain team and other teams
  • Facilitate resolution of legal disputes, including by drafting and responding to breach of contract claims
  • Prepare and maintain contract forms to support Tesla’s businesses and areas of operation
  • Liaise with colleagues worldwide to ensure consistency of contracts and risk allocation across the various Tesla businesses
What You’ll Bring
  • Juris Doctor with current license to practice in at least one U.S. state or Washington, DC
  • Minimum of 10 years of practice experience; combination of law firm and in-house experience preferred. Transactional experience in Mexico is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills with a business-level to near native-level fluency in English (verbal and written). Spanish, German, and additional languages are a plus
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to proactively identify problems, drive projects, make complex cost/benefit assessments, identify pragmatic/creative legal and business solutions, and quickly earn the confidence of your colleagues
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively and to juggle competing priorities in a fast-paced, challenging environment
  • Quick and flexible learner with well-honed analytical skills, intellectually curious, open-minded, adaptable, comfortable with ambiguity and risk, and excited by dynamic change
  • High standards, impeccable integrity and ethics, and unquestionable good judgment
