Berntsen, with a robust background in the energy sector, steps into the position previously held on an interim basis by Amanda Rome. His appointment comes at a critical time as Xcel Energy positions itself at the forefront of the clean energy transition.

Bob Frenzel, the Chairman, President, and CEO of Xcel Energy, expressed confidence in Berntsen's capabilities, citing his two decades of experience in the energy industry. Frenzel emphasized the importance of Berntsen's legal expertise and business insight in ensuring the company's commitment to providing safe, reliable, and affordable service while leading the shift towards a sustainable energy future.

As the head of Xcel Energy's legal, compliance, and corporate governance functions, Berntsen will play a pivotal role in steering the company through the evolving legal and regulatory landscape of the energy sector. His enthusiasm for the challenge was evident as he expressed eagerness to contribute to the company's ongoing leadership in clean energy initiatives.

Notably, Berntsen's career is also marked by his service as a captain in the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps of the U.S. Army. His deployment to Iraq in 2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom underscores his dedication and leadership abilities.

Berntsen's academic credentials include a juris doctor degree from the University of Iowa and a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgetown University, providing him with a solid foundation for his legal career in the energy sector.
