Happy Friday!
The job market is changing, and legal is no exception.
Legal engineer. Legal designer. These are real titles now, and I suspect plenty of people reading this couldn't explain precisely what they entail.
The working definition is someone who sits between law, technology, and process design, turning legal requirements into systems and workflows. Our internal analysis found these roles nearly doubled year over year, growing faster than legal hiring overall.
Some argue this narrows the profession. I disagree.
A lawyer who moves into legal engineering is still practicing law, just from a different seat. Between traditional paths, legal tech, AI, and ALSPs, there is more optionality for legal professionals than at any point in the profession's history, and each path is a legitimate career.
We see both sides of that shift every day. If you are a lawyer deciding where to go next, Legal.io helps you find the seat that fits. If you are a team trying to hire the people who can build and run modern legal work, we help you find them.
I’d argue the label matters less every year. A lawyer who automates her own intake is already doing a version of the job.
We are all becoming legal engineers now.
